profile
Abhishek Sharma led India to the U-19 Youth Asia Cup title in December 2016, doubling as the tournament's second-highest wicket-taker, and was later a key member of the team that won the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. In the 2018 IPL auction, Sharma was sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 55 lakh.

Abhishek Sharma featured in all of India's games at the World Cup, scoring a crucial fifty against Bangladesh in the quarter-finals and forming one-third of India's left-arm spin triumvirate in the competition. He captained India in the Youth ODI against England in 2017, which India won 3–1, until Prithvi Shaw took over as captain for the return tour of England and continued in the World Cup.

Returning from the World Cup, Abhishek Sharma represented his state Punjab in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy. And before the WC, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Punjab by producing a gutsy performance for his state team.

IPL over the years

When Delhi Daredevils - now Delhi Capitals - lost hope in their tried and tested combination and became one of the first sides to fade from the play-off race in the 2018 edition of IPL, a 17-year-old boy from Punjab made his debut. A lackluster game for his team against the mighty Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though a bit late for his likes, Abhishek Sharma proved his credentials almost immediately as the teenage all-rounder hit a 19-ball 46 on his debut that included a hat-trick of boundaries (a four and two sixes) against one. Tim Southee is the most famous bowler in world cricket.

Abhishek Sharma finished the season with just two games against his name, but his eye-catching debut innings attracted plenty of attention. So much so, that Sunrisers Hyderabad included him in the three player list (from DD) in exchange for Shikhar Dhawan as part of the trading window. With age, one would think that the U-19 star would get enough opportunities to be considered an added advantage in the shortest format with his all-round prowess.
