Another zero for Liton, a 'hat trick' in 2024

Liton is entering the field, and quickly getting out and giving West Indies an advantage—how much more can one bear to see something like this in three consecutive matches, one or two at a time! That's why the angry fan's Facebook post made such a slanted comment.

Not only in the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies, Liton Das run has been going down for a long time. In terms of matches, Liton's runs have not reached double figures in the last 7 ODIs (of course, he was unbeaten in one). And Liton has not been able to reach the ten-run mark since December 17.

In the first ODI against the West Indies, he was out for 2 runs off 7 balls, and in the second ODI, he was out for 4 runs off 19 balls. He could not even open his account in the third ODI today. He was out for 0 runs off 2 balls while standing in the ball space outside Alzarri Joseph's off-stump.

Bangladesh's last ODI series before the West Indies tour was against Afghanistan last month. Liton was not in the squad for that series in the United Arab Emirates due to illness. Before that, he played two ODIs against Sri Lanka in March. After being dismissed for ducks in the first two ODIs of the series in Chittagong, the selectors dropped him from the team for the third match.

Liton Das has played a total of 5 ODIs in 2024. Out of these, he has been dismissed for ducks in three. Liton is joint second in the number of 'ducks' in ODIs this year. The highest number of 5 ducks belongs to Junaid Siddiqui of the United Arab Emirates, but he batted 10 innings for it.

Zimbabwe's Blessing Mujarabani, Sri Lanka's Aviskar Fernando and Netherlands' Michael Levitt have no hat-tricks like Liton. However, all of them have batted more innings than Liton (6, 18 and 9 respectively).

Today's 'duck' from St. Kitts is the 15th of Liton's Das ODI career. Bangladesh has more ducks in its jersey. Tamim Iqbal has been out 19 times, Habibul Bashar 18 times. Even Mohammad Rafiq and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza have the embarrassing experience of being out for ducks 15 times like Liton. However, Rafiq and Mashrafe are not batsmen, but mainly bowlers. And Tamim (240) and Bashar (105) have played more matches than Liton Das. Among the four Bangladeshis who have been out for ducks at least 15 times, Liton has received so many 'ducks' in the fewest innings (93).
