New Zealand  318/6 (50.0) CRR: 6.36

Bangladesh 154 (42.4)

A record breaking stand!

Highest partnership in ODIs at Basin Reserve -

  • 159 - Devon Conway & Daryl Mitchell (2021)
  • 152 - Bruce Edgar & Glenn Turner (1983)
  • 152 - Rameez Raja & Shoaib Mohammad (1989)
  • 142 - Aamer Sohail & Inzamam-ul-Haq (1994)
  • 122 - Darren Lehmann & Mark Waugh (1998)
  • New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 164 runs

Right then, it's a tall task for Bangladesh to scale down this target. Having said that, it's turning out to be a belter of a wicket and will assist strokeplay. Bangladesh's batting improved by leaps and bounds in the second ODI and if they manage to bat similarly, we will be in for a cracking run chase. Do join us in a short while for more action.

It ended up being another abysmal bowling and handling show by Bangladesh. They dropped a lot of catches and there were many handling mishaps too. The dropped catches of Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor didn't hurt them much but missing out on the opportunity to run out Daryl Mitchell when he was on 24 cost the touring team for sure. Not only he punished them with his thump but his partnership with Conway was also detrimental for Bangladesh.

The partnership among Conway and Mitchell was delayed to take off but once both got in their score, runs started to stream. They proceeded to raise a record stand at the Basin Save in this format and moved the Kiwis towards a major score. Devon notched up his maiden ODI ton while Mitchell also finished his second international hundred out of an exciting fashion.

Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain put on an act in their first spell of 7 and 6 overs separately. The speedsters were extremely accurate and smart with their execution and didn't allow the Kiwis to off the snare. It was when Devon Conway and Tom Latham got together for a partnership and restored the innings for the Blackcaps with their 63-run stand. With the Bangla spinners looking incapable and Mustafizur Rahman not at his best, Tamim Iqbal was forced to bowl Soumya Sarkar and he hit gold with his first ball. The New Zealand captain departed and Bangladesh once again got an opening to regain the advantage but their expectations were thwarted by the alliance of Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell.

Fantastic batting show by the Blackcaps. Psyche you, it was a risky decision by Tom Latham to bat first on a green deck but his batsmen have done full equity. Their openers were cautious in the initial not many overs and then pushed on the accelerator. Although the stay of Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls was not long, they made sure to see off the precarious early period. Their departure with hardly a pause in between handed Bangladesh the force and the visitors bowled magnificently from thereon.

Here is the man existing apart from everything else...

Daryl Mitchell says that it's ideal to take care of business and desires to now protect the score. Advises that he simply attempts to be positive and nothing changes for him in wording on outlook (regarding batting at any positions). Mentions that he was simply attempting to hit it hard and take care of business. Admits that there was a fair bit going through his psyche in the last over. Thanks Santner for taking three runs and getting him (Daryl) back protesting. Adds that he cherishes the game and loves to contend and is happy to take care of business.

What a marvelous finish to the New Zealand innings! 21 runs off the final over, 65 in the last five and a century for Daryl Mitchell was only the good to beat all. The Blackcaps wind up in a strong position now with all the energy on their side as they head for the break.

Mustafizur Rahman to Daryl Mitchell

Two taken and Mitchell gets to his ton. The group is on their feet. The two was not on but the attendant bungled. A full toss on middle, Mitchell flicks it towards deep mid-wicket. He takes the first. The toss goes to the manager. Mitchell is battling. He cannot arrive. The toss was wonderful but this time, the attendant, Rahim, bobbles and that allows Mitchell to get to the landmark. Ideal finish of the innings. New Zealand end with 318/6.

Mustafizur Rahman to Mitchell Santner

THREE RUNS! The most ideal outcome on this ball. Short and wide outside off, Santner hits it through extra cover. They take the first. They go for the second. The ball is racing to the fence. The man from deep cover gets around and flicks the ball in. Three taken. Thus, Mitchell has got one ball to get to his maiden ODI century.

New Zealand glanced on the whole difficult situations however the Conway-Latham stand rescued them. Nonetheless, before they could put the foot on the gas, the masterstroke of giving the ball to Sarkar worked for Bangladesh as he pardoned Latham on the principal heap of his spell. From that point on, Conway alongside Mitchell has done well as of not long ago. The couple will mean to continue to bat and take the gathering to a nice position. The Bangladeshi bowlers have bowled well as of not long ago however they would be anxious to break this stand. Invigorating completion to the innings on the cards here.  Read More News Cricket Update New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI Match

Soumya Sarkar to Devon Conway

Great length ball on middle, Conway pushes it straight back and the bowler gets his hand on it before the ball disturbs the stumps at the flip side. Daryl however is safely in. The ball diverts to mid on and Sarkar himself follows it, Conway wants a run but Mitchell sends him back. 5-0-19-1, Soumya has done a tremendous occupation up until now

Mustafizur Rahman to Devon Conway

Beautiful conveyance, landing on a length and near off, Conway sticks on the back foot in his attempt to play it late down to third man. Fails to do as such and there is some solid as it goes to the guardian. They appeal but the umpire disagrees. Tamim has a discussion with Rahim before taking the review. The Hot Spot shows flat line and there is a spike as the bat brushes the thigh pad.

Rubel Hossain to Daryl Mitchell

Chance! Opportunity of a lifetime! But missed. A short ball around off, Mitchell bounces and safeguards it towards the off side. He takes off for a single. Conway is not sharp as he sends him back. Mitchell tracks back but he is too far down. The substitute fielder, Afif Hossain, hares to pick the ball as Mitchell attempts to return. Afif fails to pick the ball and Mitchell is back safely. better there.

Mehidy Hasan to Devon Conway

FIFTY FOR CONWAY! A fine, fine thump from him up until now. His second in ODIs in only his third excursion. Shortish again and once again room on offer. Conway strokes it through the covers and gets to the milestone with a single

Soumya Sarkar to Tom Latham

OUT! What a bowling change! Virtuoso move from Tamim Iqbal. Sarkar hits gold with his first conveyance. A harmless one to be honest, a delicate loosener, full and outside off, there to be driven but Latham is a shade early into his shot. Winds up cutting it off the external half to point where Mehidy Hasan dives across to one side and takes a fantastic catch. We have seen a couple of catches go down today but this ripper of a catch will lift the confidence of the whole handling unit. It's a major breakthrough for Bangladesh as Latham's partnership with Conway was taking the game back in favor of the Kiwis.

Mustafizur Rahman to Devon Conway

Two to end the over! Great running between the wickets. Once again Rahman bowls a more full ball. This one is on middle, Conway whips it pleasantly. The mid-wicket fielder plunges to one side and gets a hand to it. The ball stops and the deep mid-wicket fielder gets to the ball quickly but not before Conway scampers back for the second. 14 off the over.

Mustafizur Rahman to Devon Conway

FOUR! Sublime! Make that three out of a line! Brilliant stroke from Conway. Once again a more full ball from Mustafizur. This one is only around off, Conway creams the on drive and finds the fence. Brilliant planning.

Rubel Hossain to Devon Conway

FOUR! Not off the middle but Conway will take it. Any run right now for the Kiwis will be a bonus. A short ball on middle and leg, Conway hopes to take it on but winds up getting a top edge. The ball goes over the manager and into the fine leg fence. The fielder there was a little too wide and had no way of stopping that one

Time for reward!

What a turnaround it has been from Bangladesh after they got the wicket of Nicholls. Guptill and Nicholls were glancing in really fine touch but once the main wicket fell, the Kiwis have sort of lost the energy. Taskin has bowled really well but Rubel has been the main tormentor up until now. New Zealand need a major stand and the onus once again is on their captain. The visitors, on the other hand, would hope to fend breaking off at wickets and keep the tension on the Black Caps. Fascinating phase coming up...

Taskin Ahmed to Henry Nicholls

PUT DOWN! And it has gone for FOUR! You had the chance to take these opportunities. Taskin's subsequent conveyance is full and outside off, Henry charges down for a top dog over the off side but it takes a thick external edge and travels to one side of the guardian. Rahim makes a plunge that direction but it blasts through his gloves and runs behind for a boundary
