BCB is uncertain about getting Mushtaq for Rishad
Former Pakistani leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed signed a contract with BCB as a spin bowling coach last April. Initially the agreement was till the recently concluded T20 World Cup. BCB wants to sign a long-term contract with him as he is satisfied with his work. BCB President Nazmul Hasan told reporters after the meeting of BCB Board of Directors on July 2.
But it was learned yesterday that Mushtaq Ahmed signed a new contract with the England Under-19 team. That's why BCB is uncertain about getting Mushtaq for Bangladesh team's tour to Pakistan next month.
BCB Chief Executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury told reporters at the BCB office in Mirpur today, "He had already made some agreements. Apart from the one with the England Cricket Board, he has some other contracts. Then we signed him till then keeping only T20 World Cup in mind. Talked to him today. He has some previous contracts till December.
The CEO, however, said that the BCB had asked him earlier how many days Mushtaq Ahmed would be available. But it was not possible for him to inform BCB as he had already spoken in other places. Although BCB is still optimistic, they will get Mushtaq Ahmed as the guardian of the spinners of the Bangladesh team. Nizam Uddin Chowdhury later said, "The time he can give to Bangladesh outside of other work, he will give that time." Besides, we are talking about our long-term contract with him.
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said that Mushtaq Ahmed is also positive about the agreement with BCB, "We have sent the schedule of our future series. After seeing that, he will give a decision as soon as possible. In the last press conference, our president said, we are interested in him. As we are getting positive response from him too, we are considering him for now.'
Although the T20 World Cup ended in disappointment for the Bangladesh team, still Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain caught everyone's attention in this World Cup. Bangladesh got such a leg spinner after a long wait. If BCB gets Mushtaq Ahmed, though he will be responsible for the entire spin department, the presence of this former leggie in the coaching staff will be a big inspiration for Rishadh.
