Bangladesh women's World Cup qualifiers started with a record-breaking win. Nigar Sultana scored the fastest century for Bangladesh in the women's ODI today.

With Nigar's century, Bangladesh achieved the highest total in their ODI history. Then, Bangladesh beat Thailand by 178 runs, setting a record for the highest run win in their history.

Chasing 271 runs, Nigar's team all-out Thailand for 93 runs. Earlier, Bangladesh's record for the highest run win was against Ireland. Bangladesh women defeated Ireland by 154 runs in Mirpur in November 2024.

Thailand started well, chasing 282 runs at the City Cricket Association Ground in Lahore. The opening pair of Natthiya Buchatham and Chanida Suttiruang put on 38 runs. However, the story behind this was that of Bangladesh's two spinners, Fahima Khatun and Jannatul Ferdous. Both took 5 wickets each.

Fahima started the innings. Fahima dismissed opener Buchatham for 17 runs. Fahima also dismissed another Chanida. She also dismissed another top-order batsman, Nannapat Koncharoenki. Jannatul brought down the middle order.

After the 38 runs in the opening pair, Thailand's second highest partnership came in the fourth wicket partnership, with 18 runs. Apart from this, no pair could even reach double figures. Fahima spent 21 runs to take 5 wickets, Jannatul 7 runs.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost the toss and elected to bat, thanks to Nigar's 80-ball 101 and Sharmin Akhtar's unbeaten 94, making 271 for 3 in 50 overs. Nigar scored a century off 78 balls. Her century was Nigar's first and Bangladesh's third in this edition. The previous two centuries were by Farzana Haque.

Farzana Haque scored a century off 156 balls against India in Mirpur in 2023, which was the fastest century for Bangladesh in women's ODIs so far. Nigar surpassed her and today set the record for the fastest century for Bangladesh in women's ODIs.

Bangladesh's next match is against Ireland, next Sunday.
