Although Pakistan is the host of the Champions Trophy, the decision to host India's matches outside Pakistan was finalized after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Sheikh Nahyan Al Mubarak. They met in Pakistan. Sheikh Nahyan is a senior minister of the United Arab Emirates and the head of the Emirates Cricket Board.
The decision to host the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model was already finalized. This time, in exchange for hosting India's matches in the Champions Trophy at neutral venues, the ICC, BCCI and PCB have agreed on the condition that Pakistan will play its matches at neutral venues in the ICC events that India will host until 2027.
The term of the condition begins with this year's Champions Trophy. Then, the condition will also be effective for the Women's ODI World Cup in India next year and the Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. Sri Lanka and India are joint hosts of the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup. The condition will also be effective for the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup. This will be the first tournament in the next ICC event cycle to be hosted by Pakistan.
