Cricket News India beat South Africa by 55 runs

South Africa recorded their lowest Test score in 92 years as they were bowled out for just 55 runs by a resurgent India in Cape Town.

The Proteas completed an impressive win over the world number one at Centurion last week but suffered a dramatic upset on the first morning of the second Test at Newlands. Mohammad Siraj did the most damage with six wickets for 15 runs, with two wickets each for Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar.

South Africa's stand-in captain Dean Elgar won the toss and elected to bat first, only to see a dreadful display in 23.2 overs. Elgar, in his final appearance before retirement, was the cornerstone of his side's victory with a solid century in the Boxing Day Test. Here, he was one of eight players to get out in single figures, along with wicketkeepers Kyle Vereen (15) and David Bedingham (12). Their score was the eighth lowest in their history but their worst effort since 1932, when they scored 45 against Australia.

Kumar had just 2.2 overs to bowl to get back into the side, but still managed to pick up two scalps and not concede a run.

India's innings opened after lunch and they took the lead after just 10 overs, with Rohit Sharma leading the home seamers into the attack despite losing partner Yashvi Jaiswal for a wicket to Kagiso Rabada.
