cricket News West Indies lost the top order in the morning session
England struck three times in the second hour of the morning session on day two to hammer the West Indies in the second Test at Trent Bridge. In reply to England's 416, the hosts got off to a good start as they went wicketless in the first hour. However, Shoaib Bashir struck twice and Gus Atkinson removed the well-set Craig Brathwaite to leave the West Indies at 89/3.
Usually very cautious at the start, Brathwaite was a regular to find boundaries early in the day. Mikail Lewis then drove Atkinson past mid-off for his first boundary which then changed both ends with the arrival of Mark Wood and Bashir.
Wood routinely raised the question at 150 kmph but it was Bashir who made the breakthrough. Immediately after the drinks break, Louis brought up a boundary but tried to hit another, only to get a top edge and perish for 21 runs. The big blow came a few overs later when the well-set Brathwaite, who continued to take boundaries regularly, struggled to block a short ball from Atkinson only to lob the ball towards short leg.
Kirk McKenzie then put it away with a reckless shot minutes before the break and the tables turned completely as England took charge again.
