Earlier, Virat Kohli retired from this edition just after winning the World Cup on the same day. With the departure of these two, a chapter in Indian cricket in T20 has come to an end.
In the press conference announcing his departure, Rohit said, 'It was my last T20 too. There couldn't be a better time to say goodbye to this edition. Enjoyed every moment. I started playing for India with this version. That's what I wanted, I wanted to win the trophy.'
Rohit can be proud of the way he left this edition. Rohit, who won the T20 World Cup as captain, is the highest run scorer in this edition (4231). Rohit also scored the maximum 5 centuries in this edition.
This opener has the second highest run in this World Cup. Despite batting in relatively difficult conditions, he scored a total of 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70. Rohit made his T20 debut in September 2007. Played in all World Cups. He is the second highest run scorer in the World Cup with 1220 runs. Kohli's highest run in T20 World Cup (1292).
Rohit-Kohli's retirement from T20 is not a surprise in Indian cricket. Because, after the 2022 T20 World Cup, they both did not play any match for India in this edition in 2023. The Indian team management returned these two to the team keeping this year's T20 World Cup in mind. They came back for what they did - they gifted the team with a World Cup trophy.
