Is there fixing in IPL? Lucknow owner said, 'Impossible'

IPL can only be called a festival of cricket. Hundreds of star cricketers compete throughout the tournament. People associated with Indian cricket sometimes have to face a different question around this festival of cricket. The question is about fixing - is there fixing in IPL?

Recently, in a podcast, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka had to face such a question. As a franchise owner, Goenka's answer was as expected in such a case. The Lucknow owner replied that there is no fixing in IPL. However, Goenka did not just say 'fixing does not happen', he also commented that fixing in IPL is 'impossible'.

IPL has a dark history of fixing. In 2013, the RM Lodha Committee, formed by the Supreme Court of India, banned Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years after allegations of spot-fixing were proven. However, nothing like this was found after that.

When asked about fixing on a podcast called The Ranveer Show (TRS), Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka said, “It (fixing) cannot happen. It is impossible to think about. It is not possible in any way. At least in the IPL, it is not possible at all. And if it does not happen in the IPL, then it does not happen in any tournament.”

The RPSG Group Chairman then added, “I will give a lot of credit to Jay Shah and the BCCI for handling the matter well. They are to be commended for taking India to the highest level of victory compared to other teams.”

The 18th edition of the IPL will start on March 14, 2025, and will continue till May 25.
