Rizwan's T20 record is now old


2021 was the year of Mohammad Rizwan in T20. The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman had a great year with the bat in this edition. Rizwan scored 2036 runs in 45 innings at an average of 56.55 and a strike rate of 132.03. This was the longest recognized T20 run record in a calendar year.

West Indies' Nicholas Pooran left Rizwan behind last night. He now holds the record for the highest run in a recognized T20I. Puran overtook Rizwan on his way to a 15-ball 27-run innings against Barbados Royals for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) yesterday.

Before this match, Puran needed 5 runs to take Rizwan's record. After touching it, the West Indies batsman scored 22 more runs. In total now his run is 2059. He made this run by batting 65 innings, at an average of 42.02 and a strike rate of 160.85. Puran has more T20s ahead of him this year

Puran has done well in almost every tournament played this year. He scored the most runs in IPL-14 innings at an average of 499 at 62.37. Apart from this, he scored 354 runs in 10 innings in International League T20 in United Arab Emirates. He has 312 runs in 9 innings played so far in CPL.

Apart from this, Puran has played in US Major League Cricket, England's The Hundred, South Africa's SA T20 and Bangladesh's BPL this year. Scored 180 runs in 7 innings in Major League Cricket. Puran scored 227 in 7 innings in Hundred, 86 in 3 innings in SA T20 and 17 in 2 innings in BPL.

This Caribbean batsman has had a good year in international T20 too. In total, he has scored 384 runs in 13 innings in 2024 so far in international T20. Among them, he scored 228 runs at an average of 38 after playing 7 innings in the T20 World Cup in the middle of this year. Puran scored 119 runs in 3 innings in the series against South Africa at home and 37 runs in 3 innings in the tour of Australia.

South Africa's Riza Hendricks is close to the all-time leading scorer in T20Is this year. He scored 1555 runs in 59 matches at an average of 31.10. Pakistan's Babar Azam (1480 runs at an average of 46.25 in 36 matches) and Travis Head of Australia (1442 runs at an average of 41.20 in 39 matches) are there.
