Women's T20 World Cup is not being held in Bangladesh
There was doubt in the situation arising in Bangladesh in the last one month. In the end, that was the truth. The 2024 Women's T20 World Cup has been shifted from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates. ICC said this in a press release yesterday.
ICC said that Bangladesh will be the official host even if it is in UAE. The game will be played in two venues in Dubai and Sharjah. The tournament will be held from October 3 to 20 as per previous schedule. It is known that yesterday in a virtual board meeting of the ICC, it was decided to move the Women's T20 World Cup from Bangladesh.
The women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh has been uncertain ever since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the student movement earlier this month. However, there was a hint of hope from the interim government. However, it is being moved as the citizens of several countries, including Australia, are banned from traveling to Bangladesh, said ICC chief executive Geoff Allardyce.
In a statement, Allardyce said, 'I would like to thank everyone working at BCB for making every effort to organize this event in Bangladesh. However, due to travel bans by the governments of some of the participating countries, it was not implemented. But the hosting will remain with them. We are looking forward to organizing an ICC global event in Bangladesh in the near future.
Several countries have been mentioned as an alternative to Bangladesh in the last few days. According to India, the ICC offered but rejected it due to limitations. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe were also interested. The chief executive of ICC also thanked these two countries separately. He also said, "I want to thank the Emirates Cricket Board on behalf of the BCB for coming forward as the host."
The ICC is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, which previously hosted the men's T20 World Cup jointly with Oman in 2021. On the other hand, this is the first time that an ICC event has been moved from Bangladesh. Earlier in 2014, Bangladesh hosted the women's T20 World Cup alongside the men's. In 2011, the ODI World Cup was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
