Zimbabwe's new record against Seychelles in T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Zimbabwe cricket team could not play in 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup. The target is now the 2026 T20 World Cup. To that end they are now playing in the African sub-regional qualifiers. Zimbabwe played there yesterday against Seychelles. The team also set a new record in the match in Nairobi.

After losing the toss and batting against Seychelles, Zimbabwe scored 286 runs for 5 wickets. Despite scoring 286 runs in 20 overs, none of the Zimbabwean batsmen could reach three figures. Opener Brian Bennett scored a maximum of 91 runs off 35 balls.

Another opener Tadiwanashi Marumani scored 86 runs off 37 balls. Skipper Sikandar Raja made 36 off 13 balls. This is the highest collection in an innings in T20 cricket without a century. Sri Lanka has the second highest collection of non-centuries in T20 Internationals. They scored 260 for 6 against Kenya in 2007.

Zimbabwe's highest team score without a century is 186 runs in recognized T20. The next two matches in this list happened in last year's IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians without a century. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 272 for 7 against Delhi Capitals.

Zimbabwe's 286 runs is the third highest score in T20 Internationals. Nepal's highest score was 314 runs against Mongolia. India has the second highest collection. India scored 297 for 6 in the third match of the last series against Bangladesh.

Despite scoring so many runs against Seychelles, Zimbabwe did not get a big win. Duckworth-Lewis won the rain-hit match by 76 runs.

Qualifiers started with victory. However, Zimbabwe should not be too happy about playing the sub-regional qualifiers in Africa. This is because Zimbabwe is now the only full member team to qualify for the World Cup by finishing second or better in any of its categories. Two teams from this sub-regional tournament will advance to the next round. There they have to play one more qualifier. Two teams will play the 2026 World Cup from that stage.
